[ column ] My Ideal Drum Sound
(In English upper, In Japanese below)
My ideal drum kit that would play with my song is the combination as below.
- Ludwig or Gretsch kit
- Paiste Cymbals including China Cymbal (not China Gong)
- Above two, bigger size is better
- Kick drum without mute stuff
This my mindset about the drum was affected by my long time friend and drummer whom I respect. Also, my favorite drummers have hit their sound like that and someones of them really had used the kit listed above.
As previously I wrote, I had been taken my guitar down for 13-4 years. In this July, I have to take my guitar again for myself and to start creating my music again. Regarding DTM, it took some times to understand why the audio interface device was needed. In other words, I was just DTM beginner and did not know anything about DTM. Of course I did not know how to use GarageBand DAW because I did not know the meaning of DTM and the difference of terms between DTM and DAW.
So, I had used the bundled sound source with GarageBand as my drum sound. I selected and tweaked the sound as possible as I can reach my favorite sound. It was difficult task. Open Hi-Hat sound was not enough for me and kick drum was muted.
I bought Forcusrite Scarlett Solo as my audio interface. Some useful plugins are bundled but I did not know how to use plugin and there were many things that I should learn about DTM. So, Forcusrite bundled software was low priority for me.
In this October, I have already a little bit knowledge about DTM and know how to use plugin. In one day, I checked my software list in my account of Forcusrite. I found XLN Audio’s AD2 was listed. Previously I had checked AD2 product requirement. GarageBand is not included DAWs that AD2 listed to require. So, I thought I could not use AD2. But I found that GarageBand could be upgraded to Logic Pro DAW if I could pay the cost. So, I decided to try to use AD2 for my GarageBand because GarageBand might meet AD2 product requirement. Finally, It works.
In my opinion, Drum is the most important element in Rock music. The electric guitar is second to it and engaging with it. AD2 and ADpak Blue Oyster regenerates my creativity. I would appreciate Forcusrite to bundle AD2 and XLN Audio to create the tremendous drum plugin sincerely.
私自身の楽曲に合わせてもらえるドラムの理想を上げさせてもらうと下記な感じになります。
- LudwigかGretschのドラムキット
- シンバルはパイステ。チャイナシンバル含む（いわゆるゴングではないです）。
- 上記二点は、サイズが大きい方がベター
- バスドラムのミュートは抜いてください
これは長年お付き合いいただいている先輩で尊敬しているドラマーの影響が大きいです。もちろん、私の好きなドラマーがこのような音を出していたり、実際にこのキットの組み合わせを使用していたりもすることも、影響しています。
以前にも書きましたが、私は１３、４年ほど音楽から遠ざかっていました。ギターに触りもしませんでした。この７月に、自分自身のためにギターを再び手にとって、音楽を作ることを再開しました。DTMについては、そもそもオーディオ・インターフェイスがなぜ必要なのかを理解するのに時間がかかるくらいでした。つまり、完全なDTM初心者だったわけです。もちろんGarageBandの操作方法も全くわかりませんでしたし、それどころかDTMの意味も、DTMとDAWの用語の違いも知りませんでした。
そんな感じでしたから、GarageBandにバンドルされているドラムの音源を使うしかありませんでした。出来るだけ自分の好みの音に近い音源を選択し、調整したりもしたのですが、無理な話でした。オープン・ハイハットのサウンドには納得がいかず、バスドラムはミュートされている音です。
オーディオ・インターフェイスには、ForcusriteさんのScarlett Soloを購入しました。Forcusriteさんはとても有益なプラグインやソフトウェアをバンドルしてくれているのですが、プラグインをどうやって使うのかも知りませんでしたし、DTMで曲を録るということについて学ばないといけないことも多かったので、Forcusriteさんのバンドルソフトウェアは後回しになってしまっていました。
１０月になった頃には、ちょっとはDTMの知識も持っていて、プラグインをどう使うかもある程度わかっていました。ある日、Forcusriteさんの自分のアカウントで、バンドルソフトウェアのリストを見ていると、XLN AudioさんのAddictive Drums 2があることに気づきました。以前、Addictive Drums 2の動作環境は調べたことがあったのですが、GarageBandは動作対象のDAWに含まれていませんでした。ですので、Addictive Drums 2は使えないんだな、と思っていました。ところが、GarageBandはLogic Proへアップグレード（もちろん有償ですが）できることにも気づきました。そうであれば、GarageBandもAddictive Drums 2の動作環境を満たしているはずだと、Addictive Drums 2を試してみることにしました。結果、動きました。
私の個人的見解ですが、ロックにおいて最も重要な要素はドラムだと思っています。エレクトリック・ギターはその隣にいて、ドラムと歯車のように噛み合わせるものだ、というのが私がギターを弾くときの心構えです。Addictive Drums 2とBlue Oysterの拡張キットは、大げさに言えば、私の音楽を作るんだ、という思いをさらに強くしてくれました。Addictive Drums 2をバンドルしてくれたForcusriteさん、こんなとんでもないドラム音源を作ってくれたXLN Audioさんには感謝しかないです（拡張キットを格安で販売してくれたサウンドハウスさんにも感謝です）。
